Every time that I update Bokardo, I add a web page to the site. I also change other pages on the site, including the home page and a special page called a “feed”, so that they contain links to the new web page, too.
By using specialized software called a “feed reader”, you too can be notified of the changes I make. Feed readers regularly query web site feeds to see if they have been updated. If it has, the feed reader downloads the latest content, notifying you that something new has been published.
There are web-based feed readers as well as desktop-based feed readers. Here are several feed readers that I have either used myself or heard good things about:
If you choose a desktop feed reader, you’ll have to install it. Web-based feed readers usually require creating an account.
After you have installed your desktop feed reader or chosen an online feed reader, you can now add feeds to it. Each feed reader does this in a slightly different way. In most feed readers, you simply copy and paste the URL of the feed (seen below) into the feed reader. Luckily, most offer help or tutorials if you get stuck.
Here is the Bokardo feed URL: http://bokardo.com/feed/
After you’ve added feeds (often called subscribing), your feed reader will keep track of them over time. In the event that any of these feeds are updated, your feed reader will let you know instantly.
Now that you have the Bokardo feed, as well as any others you’ve subscribed to, you can simply check your feed reader regularly to see if any of the sites have been updated. You won’t have to visit each site every single time because the feed reader does that work for you!
